Food not as good as it was in the past. Way overpriced. Its sad to see this former icon become a shadow of what it once was...

Would like to give it 4.5 stars...because 5 should be rare. I had the pulled pork sandwich was very good. They have 3 choices of BBQ sauce right on the table. Their fries are the large cut. They were fried just right and I enjoyed them after sprinkling a little salt. The wife had the pulled pork nachos and as soon as I saw it I knew that I had made a mistake in my order! It looked awesome! Piled with pulled pork, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, and jalapeños. She confirmed that it was really good. It was too much for her to eat. Order/pay when you come in, take a seat and the food will be brought to you shortly.

Best BBQ in town. Tender Ribs, tasty, meat falls off the bones. Reasonably priced. Love this place, come here for most all my BBQ 😎

My boyfriend and I went there today, he wanted to revisit places he ate at when he was a teen, when we got home he was excited to eat a BBQ pork plate ( I had the same), to say the leadt it was absolutely the worse BBQ I have ever put in my mouth and sadly it was the same for him, this was not the" blast from the past" he was hoping to show me, I told the guy working there about it being my first time there and he said that I would love it and I'd be coming back, wrong, it was way over priced and tasted bad, except for the Texas toast, and if I could I would ask for my money back, we ate a few bites and gave the rest to the trash, and I don't even think it wanted it, we won't go back

Flies dying by the window. Everything I ate was terrible. The BBQ sauce was tangy and not good.Service was outstanding, but not enough to make up for the horrible food that tried to resemble BBQ.I won't be back.

My first visit to Hickory Pit was tonight. My boyfriend and I got there about 8:15. We wanted to eat outside but they were already putting the tables up and even when we walked out there, they continued to put them up with no offer for us to sit out there.We both got the pulled pork sandwich. It was the smallest pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had at a BBQ place... not even enough meat to taste and it was really dry! We wanted to enjoy our meal and conversation but the 3 workers in there were solely focused on getting closed down by 9 and we felt rushed. Not very friendly at all.I’ve read the reviews and I guess we just hit it at a bad time/day. I’ll try one more time but tonight was extremely disappointing!

I recommend the pulled pork.

cold soggy food, baked beans are just pork and beans with A LOT of onions, the sauces tasted like watered down ketchup with sugar and pepper. Staff was decent at the drive thru. This is my 1st and last visit here, I could have gotten a better meal at the walmart deli A LOT cheaper!!

The barbecue ribs were delicious and the coconut cake was so moist

The outside of this place doesn’t look that good and the inside just looks alright. I think the look overall could use some work, food was great tho, it tasted good, at first I thought it was a little pricey when I saw how much food it was, but I guess when you add the desert it was worth it. So I guess overall it was good, although it could look a little better honestly.

I am assuming new owners? Very unprofessional and kind of rude. They bad mouthed the last owners of 40 years to a new employee they were training. They were not shy about bashing her or making crude comments even while I was sitting across from the counter. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. I will not be back. My food was overpriced and the quality wasn’t the same as the previous owner.

The BBQ Sandwiches are amazing! Definitely worth diving for a quick bite, or better yet get a pile of Bar-B-Q to go for the family.

My family and I had been on the road all day, I drop them at hotel and went here and order to go . As we started eating it was the most amazing BBQ ever !!!!!! Staff was polite and very helpful!!!!! Must try !!!!!!

First time trying this restaurant...leaves much to be desired...The guy who waited on us appeared to be very uninterested to serve us and answer questions my husband asked him...If this is Jackson's version of bbq, no thanks...The chicken and ribs were half cooked, beans tasted like they used pork n beans and added their version of bbq sauce to it...potatoe salad was dry...Upside to this, the dining areas inside and out seemed to be pretty clean.

I never go to Jackson without at least one trip to the Hickory Pit. This is the best barbeque in Jackson, MS by far. It's a small family-owned establishment that's very welcoming. They have the best Brunswick stew that you'll get anywhere. The owners are usually working and are very friendly.

We love the Smoked Chicken Salad, but the prices are too high. The ribs leave much to be desired, avoid them. Sandwiches are good, but you'll each need one. The best value is the Smoked Chicken Salad with comeback, you can split it with someone.

I normally eat at E&L BBQ,, but The Hickory Pit was closer to my home and I didnt want to drive too far. The food is very fresh but bland their is no seasoning on the ribs, the baked beans are missing onions, bell pepper, brown sugar, the key components. The best thing going are the sweets.. The coconut cake was great. I will not be returning...Very disappointed. Customer is awesome..

The old grey made ain't what she used to be!! Suppose to be one of the best examples of Mississippi BBQ, gosh I hope not. We tried some of each kind and found each one to be unremarkable. Every item needed more smoke flavor. The sides were all just average and needed something to perk them up. Dessert was good, but not special.

Their pulled pork is great but they put some secret sauce in their baked beans. I love their bbq. Very flavorful and locally owned. Probably the best in town that I have tried. Much better bbq than Pig and Pint, hands down.

The Brunswick Stew was delicious. The burger was bland and the potatoe salad and the baked beans were mediocre. I will always go back for the Brunswick Stew.

The new owners are garbage! They are rude and ignore customers! This place is going down very fast! Food quality is below par and too expensive for the little amount you get!!! I will never go back there again... even if Hell froze over and I was starving!!!

This place offers nothing special. The BBQ is mediocre. The sides are Meh. The prices are high and the portions are small. This has been a steady decline of a good restaurant. Now it is a ghost of its former self.

Ordered a bbq pork sandwich and baked beans via Waitr. Food was prepared accurately and quickly and delivered early. Food was warm and really, really delicious. Probably the best bbq pork I’ve had in Jackson. I’ve never been to the restaurant before, nor had i ever ordered any food from there, so i had no idea what to expect. But now that i have, I’ll be ordering from there a lot more often. Sides are a little expensive but man do they taste good! Especially the beans!

I'm from Memphis. I paid 38$ for 2 pork plates and onion rings. The most overpriced, overcooked chopped pork ever. Potatoe salad dry and unflavorful. Beans had no bbq flavor. My mistake!!!!
